چکیده
The advancement in culture identification methods has made possible the culture and identification of slow-growing anaerobic bacteria in clinical samples. Here, we describe a case of polymicrobial bloodstream infection (BSI) caused by Eggerthella lenta and Desulfovibrio desulfuricans, identified by API 20A and Vitek 2 systems and by 16S rRNA sequencing.

Clinical and microbiological characteristics of bacteremia caused by Eggerthella, Paraeggerthella, and Eubacterium species at a university hospital in Taiwan from 2001 to 2010.
We describe 16 patients with bacteremia caused by Eggerthella lenta (n = 7), Paraeggerthella hongkongensis (n = 3), Eubacterium limosum (n = 4), Eubacterium callanderi (n = 1), and concomitant Eubacterium limosum/Eggerthella lenta (n = 1). Nine (56%) patients had polymicrobial bacteremia. The overall 60-day mortality rate was 19%, and all deaths occurred in patients with E. lenta bacteremia.

متن کاملEggerthella lenta as a cause of anaerobic spondylodiscitis.
Anaerobic organisms are a rare cause of spondylodiscitis. Eggerthella lenta is an organism that is not commonly associated with spondylodiscitis. We describe a case of spondylodiscitis due to Eggerthella lenta in an 82-year-old Chinese woman presenting with back pain. The organism was isolated from tissue cultures obtained via radiology-guided biopsy.

Eggerthella lenta (Eggerth 1935) Wade et al. 1999, emended Würdemann et al. 2009 is the type species of the genus Eggerthella, which belongs to the actinobacterial family Coriobacteriaceae. E. lenta is a Gram-positive, non-motile, non-sporulating pathogenic bacterium that can cause severe bacteremia. The strain described in this study has been isolated from a rectal tumor in 1935. Here we descr...
متن کاملBacteremia caused by Eggerthella lenta in an elderly man with a gastrointestinal malignancy: A case report
Eggerthella lenta is an anaerobic, Gram-positive bacillus commonly found in the human digestive tract. Occasionally, it can cause life-threatening infections. Bacteremia due to this organism is always clinically significant and is associated with gastrointestinal diseases and states of immune suppression. The authors report a case involving an elderly man with a newly diagnosed gastrointestinal...
